Saderbalm Lake

It all begins with an idea.

West Fork Stillwater drainage is a captivating area worth exploring for those who seek a challenge. A truck is strongly recommended for access. This hike was notably strenuous, ranking as one of the toughest we have encountered to date. The trail spans roughly 5 miles and ascends about 2,500 vertical feet to reach the stunning lake. It begins on a well-beaten path, and as you make your way, you will encounter the beautiful drainage area featuring a picturesque waterfall. We suggest staying as close to the creek as possible once you climb past the waterfall to ensure you remain on the right track. After you enter the burn area, which is filled with a significant amount of downfall, be prepared for over a mile of hiking with an additional 1,000 feet in elevation gain. Once you locate Saderbalm ponds, continue following the creek drainage upward. However, we would strongly advise against camping in this region due to the numerous widowmakers present nearby and the scarcity of suitable campsites. During our visit in June 2016, we were unable to catch any fish. Lots of bear sign
